Recently, the district authority of human resources and social security launched an activity on Chaozhou cuisine culture in Huaici Middle School of Guihu Town, hoping to get students more acquainted with the local heritage through promotion. The event aimed to boost the teens’ sense of cultural identity and cultural confidence in local cuisine and develop an appreciation and the pursuit of fine workmanship in society.
Chen Yu, Deputy District Head, participated in and visited the photo exhibition with teachers and students, admiring the distinctive local gastronomy.
In a talk on Chaozhou cuisine, Chen Yukai, an experienced chef of Chaozhou cuisine and provincial culinary master, talked about a lot of things, from the origin, inheritance and development of the local food, to its features, cooking skills and culture, to its cultural importance to the city. The lecture helped enhance students’ realization of local delicacies' cultural backgrounds while arouse their interest in culinary skills. They said they would share what they had learned back home, serving as the messengers and facilitators for local cuisine inheritance and development.
According to the district authority, similar activities in various forms would spread over the district’s primary and middle schools. In addition to talks and picture shows, students would have a chance to appreciate the demonstration of master chefs cook and taste their dishes. In response to the provincial and the city’s cuisine training programs, the district was to launch culinary courses for youngsters, which could promote local cuisine and help vitalize rural areas.
